Our Firm Foundation
Our Core Beliefs
-
glorifying and worshiping the Father as Creator and King, Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit as Sustainer and Empowerer. He is the center of all that we do, providing purpose for our time, talents, and treasure…to extend His Kingdom.
-
honoring the written Word of God, the ultimate authority in our individual lives and in the life of Central Schwenkfelder Church.
-
spreading the good news of God’s salvation and love in Jesus Christ through outreach to others both locally and globally.
-
studying the Bible to gain knowledge and understanding about the past, present, and future, in order to foster our life-long spiritual growth through faith in Jesus Christ.
-
embracing the historic agreements* of the Christian Church. God’s love is manifested through His church by way of unity and harmony among believers.
*These agreements are found in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds as well as the Chalcedonian Statement.
Our Mission is to
Love God
Matthew 22: 37-38: “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment.’”
Galatians 5:13-14: “You my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Serve Others
Grow Disciples
Matthew 28:18-20: “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples in all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”
Our Top Priorities Are
One Church, One Family
One Church, One Family is about unity under the lordship of Jesus Christ through spiritual growth, connecting with others, and discovering your place to serve in the church. We have a diverse church with two different styles of worship and are all unified as disciples of Christ carrying out His mission here at Central.
Reach And Retain the Next Generation
The greatest influence on anyone’s life is their family and their most formative years are infancy through young adulthood. Central sets a strong emphasis on supporting children, teens, young adults, marriages, and families. We provide an engaging place for them to worship, make roots, grow spiritually and have a healthy Christ-centered home.
Community Connection
Central is accountable to Jesus’ mandate to His church to continue His mission in the community in which He planted us and to shine His light and truth in this dark world. It’s vital for Central to have an intentional relationship with the community and be known in the community as a source of blessing and aid.
Who are the Schwenkfelders?
Caspar Schwenckfeld von Ossig (1489-1561) was a German nobleman from Silesia who led a group that called themselves the “Confessors of the Glory of Christ” in the Protestant Reformation. They extended the right hand of Christian fellowship to anyone who accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and sought to make faith a living reality in each Christian’s life. In the period 1731-1737 their descendants and followers (Schwenkfelders) fled religious persecution and settled in southeastern Pennsylvania.
